First Solo Show – Bed ‘n’ Breakfast

If you’re in Canberra on the 18th of May you should definitely make your way over to Honkytonks bar and restaurant at Garema Place in the city centre.

They approached me early in the year to participate in on of their ‘Wednesdays at The Wall’ exhibitions. Of course I said yes… so here I am about to have my first ever solo show! I’ll be exhibiting works from over the past 2 years, as well as a few new bits and pieces to keep it fresh.

I would absolutely love to see you all there. Come have a chat, have a drink, and enjoy some beautiful (and a bit sexy) artworks.

A Simple Image

Earlier in the year a close friend of mine, and fellow artist, Rebecca Worth took some photos of me for a project she’s working on. Unfortunately it’ll be a while yet before we get to see any of the final results (as she’s using some pretty crazy experimental techniques). But she has posted up one rather lovely shot of me on her website.

It’s simple, but I kind of love it.

She caught it just at the moment I gathered myself before doing a wicked hair flick. I had died my hair only the day before. Look at that vibrancy!

Which reminds me… I need to get a haircut…

In other news, my Honours project is coming along slowly but surely! I’ll have some work to post up soon so stay tuned.

Grad Show Work-in-Progress

The site is finally looking a little more fleshed out with more projects and whatnot, but I figured I should try to keep on top of this little blog section a little better, so here’s a little work in progress I’ve been doing for grad show…

TheSilentEmbroidererProgress1        TheSilentEmbroidererProgress2

So far the series’ working title is The Silent Embroider – a photography project celebrating the female sexual experience. In a society that constantly associates sex with negative connotations (particularly in the case of young women), I felt it was important topic to explore.
I’ll write more on it later once the project nears completion, as it is of course still subject to change, but at the moment I’m trying to keep it quite light-hearted and comedic. I’ve got enough material to move it in a few different directions, so for now I’ll just experiment as much as possible.

I don’t think these particular works will make the final cut, but the resulting series will definitely have some of these visual elements. I’ve also got a pretty nifty little twist in the works. You will all see eventually… not revealing all my secrets just yet. 😉

Anyway, let me know what you think!

Aaaaand the Site is Up!

It has taken a year of procrastination and numerous trial-runs, but it is finally done – I have my own website! (With a domain name and everything!)
It only went live yesterday, so there’s still a lot of work to be done. There will be a lot of scanning and resizing of old negs and images in the coming months, and hopefully some nice header designs and links to my facebook, tumblr, things I’m involved in, etc, etc…

And right here in this little blog space is where I’ll be putting works in progress, rattling off ideas and research notes (and probably where I’ll be doing a lot of procrastinating to avoid REAL work. Eep!)

To start it off, here’s a little event coming up in about a month’s time I’ve been organising with a couple of my peers. The flyer is designed by yours truly and the flower image by the lovely Ellen Hewitt, who is co-curating the exhibition alongside myself and fellow artist Monica Styles.
If you’re in Canberra in October come check it out! There’s free entry and lots of nibbles and drinks on opening night. Hope to see you there!

Also, if anyone has suggestions for improving the website I’m all ears! Very new to this whole thing and only just beginning to get my head around CSS.

That’s all for now! Will update again soon!
